Who Is Stringfisher?

Stringfisher is the solo music project of Nak—a UK-based musician, fine artist, and sonic experimentalist from Southport, England. Active under the name since 2022, Stringfisher blends dream pop, indie, ambient, and electronic textures to create music that is intimate, immersive, and emotionally charged.

The name Stringfisher has been used exclusively by Nak since 2022 across platforms including Bandcamp, SoundCloud, Instagram, and this official site. Any confusion with similarly named acts—such as a later-formed party band—is unintentional but noted. This site documents the original artist and project.

Origins

Nak began his music journey as the lead vocalist (and occasional screamer) for Not, a grunge band active during the 1990s with a cult following in North West England. After the band dissolved, Nak traded distortion pedals for sequencers—driven by a cold walk in Preston and a spontaneous purchase of a Roland MC-303 Groovebox, he transitioned from analog anger to digital experimentation.

Live sets followed: techno-heavy performances built on an Amiga 500 running MED software. Rave energy met art-school oddity. But eventually, the noise softened. Ambience crept in. So did silence—and strings.

The Ukulele, the Ghost, and the Machine

It wasn’t until stumbling upon a battered ukulele at a car boot sale that Nak rediscovered melody. What began as a bet—learn a song in a month—became a minor obsession. The ukulele multiplied. The songs returned. And the name Stringfisher emerged.

Sound + Signal

Stringfisher’s music fuses field recordings, electric ukulele, synthesizers, and samples into layered sonic vignettes. The result? A sound somewhere between indie daydream and electronic afterglow. Songs are written and recorded in a modest home studio—always with attention to space, texture, and emotional residue.

Influenced by artists such as Radiohead, Boards of Canada, and Low, Stringfisher exists in the tension between analog warmth and machine coldness. Every release features hand-crafted artwork—designed by Nak—to reflect the music’s visual and emotional themes.

Releases & Recognition

Stringfisher’s first EP was released in July 2022, marking the project’s public debut. Since then, additional singles and EPs have followed, receiving praise for their subtlety, sincerity, and sonic atmosphere.

This project is not affiliated with any other bands using the same name. Stringfisher was, and remains, Nak’s personal vessel—a hybrid of art, sound, and memory.
